In October, my dad was honored with being an Honorary Captain at the Boise State vs. San Jose State game on Halloween. Ke'akua received a BSU (bright blue and orange) sweat-suit from one of my brother's friends for his birthday. Much to mine and Ted's disapproval, he wore it on that day to support his papa who was a quarterback at BSU in the late 60's and early 70's.
We were all very proud of my dad/papa!
We hope you all had wonderful Thanksgiving surrounded by your family and friends. We'll be back in December with lots of pictures of Ke'akua's first real Christmas!
Happy Holidays!

September 2009
In September, Ke'akua turned 1 year old and his papa and amuma threw him one heck of a birthday party. We maintained the Polynesian tradition and had a great luau to celebrate with lots of family and friends! We thank everyone who was able to join in on the festivities with us and missed those who were unable to come.
Due to my sweet tooth, I had attempted to keep Ke'akua away from any sweets his first year, so when he was able to "dig in" to his birthday cake he wasn't sure really what to think. For those of you whom have been following us from the beginning, Ke'akua was slow to transition from formula to "solids." He has continued to transition slowly from "solids" to people food - he doesn't like his fingers to get dirty. So, his first attempt at his cake was pretty uneventful....
We met Ted at work that day and walked over to Julia Davis Park to check out the big fountain and ride the swings....what a great day! :)
Yay...Happy Birthday to me! :)
Occasionally, Ke'akua and I get to hang out with Colton (Ted's nephew) and the boys have a blast together; they are only 4 1/2 months apart and are the best of little buddies.

August 2009
In August Ted and I celebrated our 6th Wedding Anniversary with our annual trip to Sun Valley with Ted's Men's league soccer team. We typically go up a few days early, prior to the start of the tournament, and stay in a quaint little Bed and Breakfast called the featherBed Inn (http://www.featherbedinnidaho.com/) but this year, we camped and Ke'akua had a blast! Unfortunately, I forgot to take the camera so didn't capture his first camping trip but here are some other photos of our growing boy.
Catching up...June and July
Well, it's been awhile since the last Douglai, holla! post so here are some pictures and little blurbs to get you up to date with what's going on with us and our family.
In June, my parents and I, along with Ke'akua went to visit my brother in Vegas while Ted was in Seattle for soccer tournament. As always, it was nice to get out of Boise for awhile and go check out the Vegas scene.....except this trip was a little different. Here are a few pictures from our trip:
Ke'akua and Uncle Tasi hanging out in Tasi's new place.
My parents and with Tasi.
July was an exciting month for our family as my cousin Miren got married. It was a beautiful wedding with a glowing bride (despite the 100 degree heat in the Basque Center with 500+ people) and very proud parents of the bride.
The beautiful bride and her groom
See what a lot of excitement and heat can do to a baby? Good thing his amuma was there...
My proud Tio John with his eldest daughter.

May
I got to celebrate my first Mother's Day this year and it was FANTASTIC. Ted had worked a lot the previous week so we both had 4 days off together...it was so nice and we got to spend a lot of time together as a family. With Ted coaching and me having to work every other weekend, we don't get a lot of quality time together it seems so it was nice to be able just to hang out...we rode our bikes downtown for breakfast a few days, went on some hikes in the Foothills...and just hung out. :)
Ted and the boys
Exhausted from his hike ;)
We met my family at Bungalow in Hyde Park for Mother's Day brunch. I hope all you moms had a great day!
May has been another great month for us, but this month FINALLY Ke'akua is eating "solids" and can't get enough. Now I think he is making up for loss time. He is really enjoying his squash, sweet potatoes and any sort of fruit, but not so sure about the peas and green beans...
Hmm....sweet potatoes
And, peaches....
Now we're moving on to mom's chocolate covered coffee beans. :)
A friend of mine, Kristen Bruce, and I have been meeting for "play dates" since before Ke'akua and her son Luke were born. We've continued this since they've been born and try and meet at least monthly. Well, once the weather finally warmed up, we all met at Camel's Back Park for Ke'akua's introduction to the swings. He LOVED them! Check it out....
Just taking it easy
Hey!
Picnicing with his buddy Luke
We also spent the day with my mom and muma at the Saturday market while Ted was out of town for a soccer tournament. Yasone met us for coffee and of course some time with Ke'akua.
And here's a few more, just because. :)

April...The Cruise
Our first family vacation: Caribbean Cruise
This vacation has been in the works over the past few months and Ted's aunt, Christina had to coordinate the schedules of many family members in order to get the greatest attendance...all in all she did very well, but both Marcus and Tom were definitely missed.
Preparing for a vacation typically consists of Ted and I ensuring we've got adequate clothes, most importantly our swimsuits, for the duration of our trip, but this trip consisted of a little more planning. I had no idea what kinds of things were must-haves for a 7-month old to travel well. I did not want to be those people who drive the rest of the passengers nuts with a wailing baby. All in all we did very well...especially for our first trip, and Ke'akua traveled like a champ.
Thanks Chris for coordinating such a great trip! :)
Hope you enjoy all the pictures from our trip:
Daddy and baby getting ready for the big trip - jams and bucket hat on!
Ever so serious...
Safety check: Life jacket on (check) baby on board (check)
Ted and his siblings: Karleigh and Andy
Cocktails - Aunt Christina (Bart's sister), Cousin Sammy and Andy
Aunt Chris and Uncle Paul (Bart's older brother)
Aunt Becky (Paul's wife)
Ke'akua and Ted the first time in the kiddie pool...not sure what to think at first.
Mama and Ke'akua - still not sure what to think...
- First port: Labadee, Haiti -
The ocean....ahhh yes!
Bart & Jan in Labadee
- Second port: Ocho Rios, Jamaica -
Ke'akua was pretty sensitive to the heat for the majority of our trip he was stripped of his clothing.
Hanging out with Uncle Andy in Ocho Rios
Michael & Andy enjoying some good Jamaican beer and food
- Third port: George Town, Grand Cayman -
Colton & Karleigh trying to cool off in Grand Cayman.
- Fourth and final port: Cozumel, Mexico -
Ke'akua with his maracas
After a good day of swimming, everyone needs cocktails - haaayyyy!
Bart kicking back as we leave Cozumel
The boys all dressed up for our fancy dinner
More family pictures:
Our nephew Colton...
Uncle Landy (Bart's younger brother) and his wife Kelley
